ClosedLoop.ai – Winner of the Largest Healthcare AI Challenge Ever

On April 30th, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced ClosedLoop.ai as the winner of the Artificial Intelligence Health Outcomes Challenge—the largest healthcare-focused AI challenge in history.

The $1.6 million contest launched in March 2019 with more than 300 entrants representing the world’s leading technology, healthcare, and pharmaceutical innovators. Entrants competed to create explainable AI solutions that clinicians could trust to predict health outcomes, target scarce resources, and keep their patients healthy.

For many physicians and nurses, we learn by case studies or ‘anecdotes.  When we see a patient on a particular medication, or with a particular diagnosis, we are often reminded of a unique case study or anecdote of a previous patient. Those mental images can bias us without question, as busy clinicians don't have time to review years of patient data to help us understand if our mental image is accurate for a patient with a similar set of symptoms.
